Why did you join Quarto? What do you hope it accomplishes this year?
I joined Quarto because I wanted to gain experience in publishing, as well as because I simply like to read. I hope Quarto would be able to provide a platform for various writers and artists in the Columbia community to express themselves and share their works.
What is the last book you read that wasn't for a class?
Korean cookbook with a Korean title that I don't really know how to translate into English. It made me sad because I couldn't figure out how to cook any of the dishes.
If you could recommend one book to anyone, which would it be and why?
"The Smell of Watermelons," by Ekuni Kaori. I think this will be my favorite book for a while. It's an anthology of short stories about summer, all told from the viewpoint of young girls. If Kaori's book was a food, it would probably be a blue watermelon that doesn't taste like anything, but still has the perfect texture. It's beautifully eerie and defies your expectations in the best ways possible.
If you could live in any book or literary world, what would it be and why?
Probably "Alice in Wonderland." Since the first time I read it, I've always wanted to play croquet with a flamingo and a hedgehog.
